Teaching Style “Refreshing, inspiring, thought provoking and captivating”

Tamu Chambers is an award-winning interdisciplinary professor and former education specialist in the School of Business at Hudson Valley Community College and a master diversity trainer for more than 18 years.

Currently, she is  a professor of:

  • Sociology
  • Cultural Diversity in American Society
  • African History
  • African American History
  • African American Experience

She continues her lecture duties at  the State of New York, Empire State College’s Center for Distance Learning (CDL).  She facilitates and assist in the instructional design of on-line courses:

  • Diversity in the Workplace
  • Human Resource Management
  • Marketing

She has taught at the University at Albany, Russell Sage College where she co-founded the Diversity Enrichment Institute.  She was appointed to the position of  former executive director.  Professor Chambers fast track tenure at Hudson Valley Community College and continues her lecture duties for the State of New York, Empire State College’s Center for Distance Learning for approximately sixteen years.   Through her teaching and advising, she has taught thousands of students.

Her teaching expands designing and implementing various training programs in secondary education, high schools,  and institutions of higher education throughout the capital region.   Professor Chambers continues to design and facilitate diversity-training modules for public and private sector employers.  She is a local, national, and international motivational speaker and an inspirational treasure for public and private institutions in higher education.

She is an inspirational treasurer – serving on various committees  in institutions of higher education and volunteer for various community based organizations”

Service Learning and Civic Responsibilities

Chambers’ work in the community has included volunteering for the State of New York  System and Research Foundation.  She continues to serve committee as a member of various diversity initiatives including Veterans as well as other categories listed under Title VII of Civil Rights Act.   Her volunteerism includes participating on various planning committees for the Faculty Council of Community Colleges.

Professor Chambers continues to receive appointments to serve on the president’s task force at Hudson Valley Community College.   She is the club advisor of Katrina’s Closet at Hudson Valley Community College. During the last several semesters, she mentors students and conducts motivational workshops.
